January Meeting: Alternative Hives

Past Event

January 12, 2016, 7:00 -9:00 pm
Q&A Session 6:45pm
The Point (at C. C. Young Campus)
4847 W. Lawther Dr, Dallas, TX

Please join us to learn about alternative hives from TVBA member (and president) Bob Richie. Bob is a native Dallasite and has been a beekeeper since he was 13 years old. He spent the first 3 years of his beekeeping career as a “beekeeping slave” for Fred Richardson, the original owner and founder of North Dallas Apiaries. A member of Boy Scout Troop 717, he worked with Mr. Richardson to obtain his Beekeeping Merit Badge. Mr. Richardson failed to tell Bob that it didn’t really take 3 years to get the badge! For many years Bob kept bees in traditional Langstroth hives. A couple of years ago he started keeping bees in Kenya Top Bar hives that he designs and builds himself. He has also developed nuc boxes, swarm traps and equipment for doing cut-outs that are specifically designed for Top Bar Hives.

The Q&A Session starts at 6:45. Come early to get your beekeeping questions answered by our more experienced members in a more informal setting.

Also, we will have our “Bee Plant of the Month” and Alan Eynon with our monthly “In the Hive”.
