The Point at C. C. Young
4847 W Lawther Dr, Dallas TX
This month we will have Blake Shook of Texas Bee Supply and Desert Creek Honey speaking to us. In 2003, when he was just 13 years old, Blake Shook began beekeeping as a casual hobby. By the time he graduated high school, Blake was enjoying beekeeping and producing delicious honey so much that he decided to pursue it full time. In the years following, Blake has built Desert Creek Honey into a thriving company and in January 2017 he opened Texas Bee Supply, offering Texas beekeepers everything they need to help their bees thrive. In an effort to promote beekeeping, Blake has served as a director for the American Beekeeping Foundation and the Vice President for the Texas Beekeepers Association. He has also served as president of the Collin County Hobby Beekeepers Association and has had the privilege of speaking at meetings and conferences on local, state, national, and international levels. Blake will be telling the story of his beekeeping career, from CCHBA beekeeping scholarship student to large scale honey producer, and talking us through the growing pains, hurdles, and milestones along the way.
In addition to our main presentation, we will have our “Bee Plant of the Month” and our monthly “In the Hive”. We will also be presenting a quick overview of our proposed updates to the club bylaws. Beekeeping Q&A starts at 6:45, and the meeting officially starts at 7:00 pm.
Since this month’s meeting happens to fall on Valentine’s Day, feel free to bring your favorite sweet treat to share with your fellow beekeepers!
There will not be a “Trophallaxis in the Theater” class or workshop this month; check back in March for exciting new members-teaching-members pre-meeting topics.
In addition to having Blake as our speaker, don’t forget that this is the first month that Texas Bee Supply will be offering free equipement delivery to meetings for Trinity Valley members:
“We at Texas Bee Supply are excited to offer the members of TVBA free delivery of all beekeeping supplies in our catalog and on our website every month, beginning on your February 14th meeting! Simply call us at 469-500-1473 to place the order, or go to www.texasbeesupply.com. Catalogs should be available at your club meeting, or you can see our inventory at www.texasbeesupply.com. Or give us a call, and we will mail you a catalog. During checkout apply code TVBA to let us know what club meeting to deliver to, and we will have it ready for pick in the parking lot, 30 minutes before the club meeting starts, and during break time. Please place your order at least 2 days before the meeting so we can have your order prepared in time.”
All meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month and are free and open to the public. You’re encouraged to attend even if you don’t know anything about beekeeping–it’s a great chance to see what it’s all about!
