April Pre-Meeting Class: Intro to Native Texas Bee Species

April 11, 2017 6-6:45 pm

The Point at C C Young, 4847 W Lawther Dr, Dallas

This month’s “Trophallaxis in the Theater” class is free, and will be presented by Ryan Giesecke of Honey Bee Relocation Services.

This class will introduce you to many of our native bees. Honey bees were brought to North America from Europe in the mid 1600’s, but there are over 700 species of bees native to Texas, and over 4000 in the United States.

Most are important pollinators to native plants and to agriculture. Many can easily be provided with nesting sites, and some can even be managed for population growth and pollination. Bumble bees, mason bees, leafcutter bees, carpenter bees, cuckoo bees, and many more will all be specifically discussed.
